✊🏾 LEAP #5 — Transforming Ourselves, Building the Movement, Practicing Ethical Leadership
Leadership is not about the spotlight—it’s about building the capacity of others to lead. In this fifth session of our Leadership Education for Action & Power (LEAP) series, we’ll dive deep into the practice of ethical leadership, drawing inspiration from movement ancestor Ella Jo Baker and her lifelong work to grow collective leadership.
Together, we will:
-
Reflect on Ella Jo Baker’s legacy of grassroots, community-centered leadership
-
Explore ONE DC’s definition of ethical leadership—rooted in fairness, respect, honesty, conflict transformation, and accountability to community
-
Use role plays and group exercises to practice navigating ethical conflicts, integrity, and responsibility in real-world organizing
-
Study and discuss how to combat liberalism and avoid the harmful leadership practices that cause organizations to fail
-
Make a personal pledge to the ONE DC Code of Responsibility, committing ourselves to growth and accountability as leaders
This session is about more than learning—it’s about transformation. We’re preparing ourselves to be the kind of leaders who embody clarity, care, and integrity, so that our movement not only survives, but thrives.
