Kelly Iradukunda

Kelly Iradukunda is the People’s Platform organizer and has been working with ONE DC since 2017. An immigrant from Burundi, Kelly witnessed her whole life the atrocities and injustice related to the ethnic divisions that torn apart her country, the incessant hatred between Hutus and Tutsis in Burundi that became the determining factor of how far one could go in life. She moved to the United States in 2012, and found the racial divisions that haunt this country, and the injustice that comes with it, quite similar to what she has experienced back home. Kelly moved to Maryland in 2015, and joined ONE DC last March and has since been learning the steps and the dedication it takes for radical social change. Kelly is a part-time apprentice organizer for the People's Platform focusing on the right to housing. She is eager to continue learning the tools to create a more inclusive society and ONE DC’s alternative vision for DC residents. She hopes to use the same approach to help the Burundian population move past ethnic divisions.
