Celebrate the Commons - Emancipation Day with ONE DC

Join us on Emancipation Day as we 'celebrate the commons!' The Commons are spaces that can be equally accessed by all residents of the city, spaces that strengthen cross-class community and explicitly make space for those who have been excluded from systems of private property. By holding this event at the BWC, we begin to collectively vision how we build the center into a space to grow the commons of DC. Featuring:

  • History of Emancipation Day as told by ONE DC members
  • Carving out the Commons: Tenant Organizing and Housing Cooperatives in Washington, D.C. author talk with Amanda Huron
  • Volunteer clean-up day at the newly purchased Black Workers Center building in Anacostia
  • Community cook-out
  • Banner drop
  • Drumming & music
  • Co-sponsoring organizations: Empower DC, Black Benefactors, SURJ DC, Justice First & Resource Generation
Email ONE DC at [email protected] to join the planning committee.
