Theme: State Violence & Work

What is state violence? How does it affect our lives? How is state violence manifested in our search for living wage, dignified work? What does resistance to state violence look like?

Freedom School will include discussion, group breakouts and exercises, video, art, music, and fellowship with other ONE DC members. Food will be served. We are encouraging everyone who plans to attend the Jobs Action on July 22nd to join us at Freedom School so we have a shared understanding.

About Freedom Schools

ONE DC Freedom Schools are community learning events based on the tradition of the Mississippi Freedom Schools organized by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee during the summer of 1964. The Freedom Schools were based on the task of helping release young students from the passivity that schools and society had fostered in them, and in turn, providing them with the skills and experiences that would encourage them to build leadership for a movement designed to change Mississippi. Using question-posing techniques (the same techniques as Popular Education and popular theater), the Freedom Schools were a progressive and radical education project.
