SURPRISE! Happy International Housing
Rights Day, Mayor Fenty! On October 6th, we dropped by your
house in ShepherdPark to
celebrate. We brought signs and plenty of noise-makers. But…you didn’t seem so
happy to see us. Maybe we insisted that even the poorest people in DC deserve a
place at the party—and calling you to task for withdrawing your commitment to
affordable housing. Sixty of us showed up to say, “We can afford to pay rent,
but not as much as you can!” In case you ever get sentimental and want to remember
this amazing get-together, check out what the Washington City Paper and DC Indymedia recorded about the affair. Thanks
for the memories! Now if you could only recall your promises to low-income
residents….
